The Barron Hall was built in 1806 by Pierse Barron as a school to educate, free of charge, the poor of the Parish, and was enlarged in the 1840s with the addition of a second room. When the Boys' School moved out in 1966, it was converted into a community hall, (the main building is listed), with a stage being added at one end and an extension being built on the back. It was a well used community hall for some 30 years, the last groups using it being the Girl Guides and the Community Market, before it finally closed its doors for restoration.
The restoration process began in 2007 when seven 'promoters' and a committee came together and obtained the title to the property known as Barron Hall with the attached land - the playground at the rear. Since 2008 the "Barron Community Hall Stradbally Ltd." is a registered company and is also a registered charity 20077709. And so began - and continues - the restoration and maintenance process, the next stage of which is the renovation of the back rooms into usable space, for which fund raising is ongoing.
